1. Camp and trek to Chembra Peak

This is the highest peak in Wayanad and is most famous among trekkers. From the top of the peak, you can see the panoramic view of surrounding and the view of the whole district. You cannot just go and start trekking here you need to take permission from the South Wayanad Forest Development Agency. There are different packages available for Indians and foreigners at different prices.  

It is not famous just for the view, It provides a spectacle from the top, there is a heart-shaped lake which makes the place even a more beautiful and nice spot for tourist.

The temple is at a height of around 900 meters and this beautifully constructed temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. 4. A visit to see Wall Craving – Edakkal Caves

Edakkal cave is believed to be from the time of 6000 BC and has cave art. You must trek for around 45 minutes to reach the cave entrance. At the entrance, you must buy the tickets from the ticket counter. While being in the cave you can see that there are 2 levels in the cave and lots of carvings of animals and humans on the cave walls. Inside the cave, there are proper barricades for the safety of tourists. It is advised that you bring your food and take care of the cleanliness of the place.

7. Pookode Lake

This Lake is a freshwater lake spread over 8.5 hectares and is about 6 meters deep. The beautiful freshwater lake which is surrounded by green mountains and according to geographical experts the lake resembles the Indian map. The lake is not about just admiring its beauty the place also offers some refreshing activities like boating, trekking, bird watching and most interesting is a fish spa. In the fish spa, you get a massage from fish’s bites and that’s awesome.

The green forests sanctuary is packed with endangered species of flora and fauna. It is advised that you come here during visitor’s hours only and pack your things accordingly because you will likely be spending around 2 hours in Sanctuary.

For better life experience you can opt for Jeep Safari, but you must ensure that you do not get out of the vehicle during the safari. The sanctuary is kept clean by staff, therefore, you won’t be allowed to carry any plastic item inside, the whole sanctuary is announced as a plastic-free zone.

10. Vythiri town

According to legends, here in Vythiri, there is a tree that is popularly known as CHAIN TREE and believed that tree is possessed by the spirit of a local engineer who was given the contract to build roads in town. After that incident, many accidents happened on that road and for the safety of everyone a priest chain the spirit with a tree in the Lakkidi area and even today tourists who pass that tree pay homage for their safe passage.

This waterfall one of the major attractions in Wayanad and it is one of the largest waterfalls in Kerala. The waterfalls can be reached by any part of the city but still, you need to walk around 2 km to reach the waterfall as there is no direct way for vehicles. The waterfall is surrounded by thick forests and is an ideal place for a picnic and swimming in freshwater. The waterfalls from a height of 300 meters and form a pool on the base that is ideal for swimming.

You can visit the Meenmutty waterfall at any time of the year but avoid the place during monsoon because the water flows at a dangerous level. You must hire a guide for safe travel.

13. Banasura Sagar Dam

The Banasura Sagar Dam is Asia’s second-largest dam and is situated in Wayanad district. Many people visit here for the picturesque view of the landscapes and you can also do speed boating here. You can also trek to the top of the hill for a better view of the dam and that is completely free. The Banasura Sagar dam is used for irrigation and electricity.

15. Explore Un-touched beauty of Kuruva Island

Kuruva Island is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Wayanad as the place is untouched by humans. The island is spread over 950 acres and is surrounded by beautiful lakes and rare species of plants. The place is perfect for those who like to spend time in nature. The island is protected by the forest department and they are the one allows visitors to enjoy some time here.

To keep the Kuruva island clean and not overcrowded, there are only 200 visitors allowed in a day so you must reach the island as soon as possible. There are numerous things to do on Island like bamboo boat rafting which is fun as you are just a few inches above the water.
