1. Golden Temple

This is found in 1577 by the fourth Sikh Guru, this is one of the most spiritual places in India. As the name indicates, it is made of pure gold and marble. This temple is also known as Sri Harmandir Sahib. The awesomeness of this place can’t be expressed in words this place is visited by people from all over India as well as outside of India. Every person is welcome here with all heart and respect without asking their religion.

The most fascinating thing about this place is that the golden temple offers free food to everyone irrespective of their religion. “Langar”(langar means offering food for free to everyone), this word is familiar to every Indian. The Golden temple does Langar every day serving around 50,000 people, yes you read it right this temple serves that amount of people for free.

2. Attari Border

It is located 28 km from Amritsar, Attari border marks the boundaries between Indian and Pakistan. There is a Grand Trunk road between Amritsar (Punjab, India) and Punjab in Lahore (Pakistan). A ceremony held every day at this place before sunset basically this ceremony includes the closing of the international gates and lowering the flags of both the countries.

Just before the sunset Indian soldiers and Pakistan military meet at this border to engage in a 30 minutes display of military mutual trust.  But the main purpose of the ceremony is to close the gates and lower down flags.

3. Jallianwala Bagh

This place is associated with one of the saddest days in Indian history. This place is spread over 6.5 acres of land and here innocent people were killed on the orders of General Dyer as they gathered for a peaceful celebration of Baisakhi. There is a memorial that was constructed post the independence for the innocents who lost their lives in this devastating incident.

As I told you about the massacre memorial there is a wall that still bears the marks of the bullets that were hurled blindly at the civilians.

One can’t even think about the number of people that were killed, it was estimated over 10000 Hindus, Muslims, and Sikhs.

4. Akal Takht

It was founded in 1606 and is the highest political institution of the Sikhs. There are total of five tickets and each Takht is seats of power and authority among the Sikh community. Its located in the Golden Temple complex and directly opposite the Harminder Sahib.

When you will visit there, you will see how beautiful this structure looks it is a five-story building with marble inlay and a gold-leafed dome. Worth mentioning is the walls painted beautifully. Every evening visitors can see the rare weapons of Sikh gurus and warriors which are displayed here. The ideal time to visit this place in Amritsar is around October to March as the weather is pleasant and ideal for sightseeing.

5. Gurdwara Sahib

This Gurdwara Sahib was built by the fifth guru of Sikhs, Guru Arjan Dev in the Mughal style of architecture. Some of the visitors and pilgrims believe that Sarovar’s water has medical qualities and can also cure leprosy. The upper section of the structure is covered in glittering gold sheets and the lotus dome that covers.

6. Partition Museum

This is the first-ever museum in the world that focuses on the stories and trauma of the millions who had to suffer from the partition. Here in the museum, you will see the collection of newspaper clippings, photographs as well as personal items that were donated by people who witnessed the partition.

It is visited by many people which includes students and families of those who were affected by the partition. Tourists here write messages of love and peace on paper that is shaped like a leaf, and then hang then on a barbed-wire tree.

1. If you are impatient to read the massive amount of information then this place is not for you.

2. Photography is prohibited inside Museums.

3. This place is just 200 m away from the Golden Temple.

7. Maharaja Ranjit Singh Museum

It’s a very interesting fact that while east India company occupied whole India except Punjab, He was only Sikh who raised the flag of freedom. Maharaja Ranjit Singh was called the lion of Punjab, he has played a decisive role in Indian history with his sword.

If I give you a glance at this place when you will enter this place you will see a double story building which is now a museum and a statue of Maharaj Ranjit Singh riding a horse. The museum is displayed on the second floor of the building where you will see a panorama of Ranjit Singh’s major Battles. The floor is like a circular hall having painted walls, arms and weapons. Not just that there are three-dimensional painted walls and sound effects.

8. Gobindgarh Fort

This fort represents the glorious past of 257 years. The most fascinating thing about this place is that the Toshakhana which is now a museum in the fort was used to store the famous Kohinoor diamond. The Toshakhana is now known as the coin museum and here a replica of Kohinoor diamond is displayed. The design element of the structure is influenced by French architecture.

Well, this pace was opened for public in 2017 and reaching this place is one of its kind experiences. I mean just imagine camel rides not just that traditional folk performances and a beautiful 7D laser art show at night. At this place, there are several activities that will make your day. Like 7D laser show, a coin museum (Toshakhana), Live performances

9. Punjab State War Heroes Memorial & Museum

The museum immortalizes the bravery of the soldiers of Punjab. The structure is built in both a tradition and a modern architecture style. There is a 45m high sword installed at the central vista was jaw-dropping, there is a total of 9 states of the art galleries. You will be stunned to view the museum because everything seems so realistic.

Here you can see paintings, weapons, numerous illustrations, tanks. The museum also stands as a constant source of inspiration for the youth and a reminder of the sacrifices for freedom.
